The 200 Ton Ashtray series are formed from 2 inch steel plate using a blacksmith’s forge and a one-of-a-kind vintage 200 ton hydraulic press from 1956. Making these is hot, heavy, old school metalworking that produces a wonderfully textured, organic result. The distinctive pattern from the torch used to cut the blanks, the tool marks, and the fire-scale skin that the 1900 degree forge leaves on the steel are all retained in the finished product like marks from a potter’s fingers.
